The writing went into the toilet and the show started to get a little stupid. The show ran for three-and-a-half seasons before flaming out, losing its star (Ally Walker) and then her replacement (Jamie Luner). When it hit the airways in 1996, Profiler was able to operate without too much TSotL comparison and stand on its own, although it did have to deal with comparisons to Fox's Millennium. So it was probably a good idea that ex- NYPD Blue writer Cynthia Saunders held of for a few years on her show about FBI criminal profilers and let the phenomenon die down. Still, I wonder how many people enamored by the movie actually made it to Quantico and found out that the sign in TSotL that reads "Pain… Agony… Hurt… Love-It" is real and the FBI trainers mean it.Maffia began her acting career in Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway productions. Sound familiar? When he felt Sam was ignoring him, Jack decided to get her attention by killing her husband. She had been on the case of a brilliant murderer nicknamed Jack of All Trades. Using FBI profiling techniques and her own intuition and insight, Sam helps solve the murder. In some ways, this mirror's Red Dragon, in that a mentally damaged agent is brought back to work to help solve a case. A series of unsolved murders brings her former boss Bailey Malone (Robert Davi) looking for Sam, asking for help. No way would the FBI let some smart-ass killer get away with taunting one of its agents this long, not to mention killing her husband.A+Profiler+Episode+Sub-menu. It was the one element of the show I just couldn't buy. Through it all, Jack continues to taunt Sam. Sam's group, called the Violent Crime Task Force (VCTF), was based in Atlanta but journeyed to New York, Michigan and Texas on cases, just like FBI profilers do, handling a variety of crimes. She plays a vulnerable character, in that she's scarred from Jack killing her husband and has a young daughter that causes her endless worry. But Walker is the star, and she does indeed shine above all of them. To avoid piling everything on Sam, Bailey began to have his own problems, involving his rebellious teenage daughter, which comes to a climactic head at the end of the season. You can't watch this show in daylight because you won't be able to see it The VCTF officers seemed to be in permanent darkness. The show was incredibly dark, figuratively and literally. The Audio The audio is in Dolby two-channel and isn't bad, but isn't anything to write home about. He's got a complexion comparable to Tcheky Karyo, but when he moves a lot, the fine details of his face disappear. When there's a lot of movement, fine detail blurs, but returns when movement stops. Score: 5 out of 10More+love+notes+from+Jack. Voices do come through clean and clear, even when they are at crime scenes and there is all manner of background noise. The only score I can give for long periods of silence is to say there is no hiss or static, but that's not saying a whole lot. The end result is an extremely quiet show. There are no DVD-ROM features but the DVDs do have some very nice animated menus and submenus for each episode with a synopsis of that episode. There are also cast biographies, a photo gallery and DVD credits. The Bonus Features section has an A&E special called Profiles in Evil: Inside the Criminal Mind, which discusses the Behavioral Sciences division at the FBI and notable cases. It would have been nicer to have the two of them together, because with one person doing commentary on an hour-long show (ok, 43 minutes), there are long periods of silence.
